Mikayla created the UBC Athletes hub to help bring mental health resources to UBC athletes.

Athletes are often told to be tough and to ‘suck it up’. When it comes to mental health, this is not the answer. On April 7, 2016, as a member of the UBC Women’s Hockey team, Mikayla's world was shattered, she and her team had lost a teammate to suicide. Hoping to make a change in the way that mental health issues are viewed in the athletic community, Mikayla helped bring UBC Athletes Hub to life. UBC Athletes Hub is a comprehensive mental health resource designed for student-athletes at UBC and UBCO.

The website contains information on common mental health concerns, tips help manage the daily stressors of varsity athletics, and a section dedicated to every resource available to student athletes on campus and in their city. Mikayla hopes that with the creation of UBC Athletes Hub that she and her team can continue working towards erasing the sigma surrounding mental illness.
